Minergie

Minergie is a Swiss association that has certified buildings for energy efficiency since 1998. The label comes in several variants, Minergie, Minergie-P, Minergie-A and Minergie-ECO, each with different requirements for insulation, airtightness and the type of heating.

For heat pump owners, Minergie matters for two reasons. First, some cantonal funding programs or bank products require a Minergie certificate as a condition. Second, a heat pump is often the only practical heating solution for reaching Minergie level in a renovation, because fossil-fuelled heating is not permitted at the higher certification tiers.
